Psalm of Lament for our Nation
LAMENT FOR THE NATION
Address
Great God of glory and peace,
Sovereign Lord over all creation.
King Most High full of power and might,
God of justice, grace and mercy.
We beseech Thee to hear our Prayer.
Complaint
Our nation is full of pain and sorrow,
Fear is growing in our hearts.
Racial tension is dividing our country;
The body of Christ is growing in strife and derision.
How long until you bring peace?
How long until you restore joy?
God we beg you to bring order and comfort to this land.
We beg you to comfort the hearts of sorrow.
Surround the families of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile,
Give hope and peace to their families, to grieving mothers and fathers, and their children,
God give hope and reconciliation to the black community;
Fill the hearts of the fearful and weary with your mercy.
Give healing and peace to families of Brent Thompson, Patrick Zamarripa, Michael Krol, Michael Smith, Lorne Ahrens.
Send the Holy Spirit to minister the Dallas community, to grieving widows and children.
Give courage and strength to police officers across this nation to continue to serve and protect.
Give this nation gratitude and heartfelt thankfulness for their service.
Request
God do not allow this senseless violence to continue,
Show your might and mercy to bring peace.
Mighty God only you are able to bring justice.
Gracious Lord only you are able to bring healing.
Rise up, O God, Awake your Power
Wake up the church to speak with wisdom
Rise Up, O Lord, Awake your Mercy
Wake up the church to love in truth
Expression of Trust
God our King is from of old,
working salvation in the midst of the earth.
You divided the sea by your might;
you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters.
You split open springs and brooks;
you dried up ever-flowing streams.
Yours is the day, yours also the night;
you have established the heavenly lights and the sun.
You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth;
you have made summer and winter.
You have given the world your Son,
You have loved in mercy.
Jesus overcame death and the grave,
We live in hope of a glorious inheritance.
Jesus now reigns at the right hand of God,
So whether we are awake or asleep we will always be with the Lord.
We long for the day when you come in your glory.
Come Lord Jesus, Come Soon.
