Member Spotlight - Shellenbergers
Bobby and Jennie Shellenberger
1.) What is your vocation?
Bobby: I am a 9th grade math teacher at Rock Hill High School
Jennie: I am a stay at home mom.
2.) Tell us about your family:
We are a family of 6 kids (Tess is 11, Timothy is 10, Taralyn is 7, Toby is 5, Tori is 3, and Titus is 1), 4 chickens, 1 parakeet, and 1 bearded dragon. In other words, a zoo.
3.) Who was the main human influence that lead you to a relationship with Christ?
Bobby: My youth pastor, Mark Nicholson, had the greatest impact upon me. He walked the words he preached to us youth, and mentored me.
Jennie: My parents were the greatest Christian influence on me as a child. Through their faithfulness, I became a believer at 12 years old.
4.) What is your favorite Bible Verse?
Bobby: Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
Jennie: Hosea 2:21-23"And in that day I will answer, declares the Lord, I will answer the heavens and they shall answer the earth, and the earth shall answer the grain, the wine, and the oil, and they shall answer Jezreel, and I will sow her for myself in the land. And I will have mercy on No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, 'You are my people'; and he shall say, 'You are my God.'"
5.) What has the Lord been teaching you over the last 6 months?
Bobby: The Lord has been teaching me that the Christian life is much more than just having correct beliefs. It is also about having strong, true affections for the Lord.
Jennie: So much! That I must rest in Him when parenting these children He has given us. That I must start my day with my focus upon Him and His Word. That I am nothing in this grand scheme, and He is everything. Now... putting all that into practice is a whole other story. But I am a work in progress, degree by degree (2 Corinthians 3:18).
6.) What is something most people don’t know about you?
Bobby: In high school I drove a white 1976 Ford Granada. My nickname for it was "The Ford Countach".
Jennie: Before I was married and had kids, I was quite the adventurer: legit mountain biking, white water rafting, rock climbing, bridge rappelling, kayaking, biked down Pikes Peak in Colorado, camping in the snow, and more. Now, I have a near heart attack if the kids jump off the 4th step in the house or don't have their helmets on while riding their tricycles around the sidewalk. What has happened to me?!
7.) Do you have any specific prayer requests?
Pray that we as parents will have wisdom in teaching, and displaying for our kids what it means to follow Christ and love him.
